A wanted Bulletin was today issued for a Campbellville man who allegedly conspired to the defraud the Government

The Police in a press release stated that Jadoo Datt is wanted for questioning in relation to a number of conspiracy to defraud, committed on the Government of Guyana between December 2015 and April 2016.

The Police are asking anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of Jadoo Datt to contact the police on telephone numbers 226-2870, 229-2655, 229-2289, 227-1149, 226-7065, 911 or the nearest police station.
All information will be treated in the strictest confidence.

Woman accused of attempting to shoot a police officer has been remanded to prison

Twenty-five year old Maryann Daby was on today remanded to prison for attempted murder of a police officer and possession of illegal firearm and ammunition.

Daby, the finance manager of Daby’s Distribution at Providence, East Bank Demerara appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Magistrates’ Court where she was remanded to prison until May 23.

The first charge read that on May 13 at Albert Street and Thomas Land, Daby with the intent to commit murder, attempted to discharge a firearm at Police Constable Christopher Kissoon. She was not required to plea to the charge.

The last two charges read that on the same day in question Daby had .32 pistol along with 6 live rounds without being a licensed firearm holder. She pleaded not guilty to the two charges.

Attorney at law, Mark Waldron in his application for bail told the court that his client is a licensed firearm holder since 2014, however, this year Daby upgraded her firearm license to a 9 mm pistol.

Waldron explained that no spent shells were found on the scene.

However, Police Prosecutor Arwin Moore objected to bail citing the seriousness of the charge and the woman was not licensed to carry that particular firearm.

High School teacher committed to stand trial in high court for sexual assault

Economics teacher Coen Jackson was today committed to stand trial in the High Court for the sexual assault of a child under the age of 16 while being in a position of trust.

Jackson appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court where it was found that there was sufficient evidence to have the former Bishop’s High School teacher committed to the High Court.

Jackson, however, will continue to enjoy his pretrial liberty. The teacher was placed on $300,000 high court bail. The former high school teacher is accused of abusing a child at his Durban Street, Lodge home between December 2000 and May 2011.

A taxi driver and mechanic were today charged with possession of stolen property

The men Mahadeo Lall and Munish Persaud appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Judy Latchman where they denied the charge and were released on $200,000 each. They will return to court on May 30.

The charges came some four days after a stolen Toyota Allion car was recovered at Airy Hall on the Essequibo Coast.

Reports are that the two received the car on March 30th from Earland Angus in Princes’ Street in the City. The car is said to be valued at $2.2 million.

Prosecutor, Arwin Moore told the court that the vehicle was stolen by Angus who took it to a workshop owned by Munish Persaud for it to be sprayed.

Persaud, in turn, gave the vehicle to Mahadeo Lall to operate it as a taxi and agreed to pay him $18,000 per week.

The car is the property of Anthony Pickett, he was allegedly robbed by Angus on March 14 of the vehicle, 1 cell phone and $7,000 in cash. Angus is before the court for that matter.

One dead, several seriously injured in Soesdyke/Linden accident

Dead is Arianna Hughes of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara. She was a passenger in the car driven by her father, which collided head-on with a route 42 mini -bus.

Her father, mother and other siblings are all in a serious condition at the GPHC.  Hughes and the other injured persons were rushed to the Diamond Hospital, then later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where Hughes succumbed this morning.
There are reports that after the collision, both vehicles toppled several times before coming to a stop. Both vehicles were badly damaged. There are reports that the driver of the car swerved and ended up in the path of the mini-bus. The Guyana Police Force Traffic Department is on the story.

Video of GPL employee lying on the road after he was shocked by high voltage wire during maintenance work. The man is now a patient of the Georgetown Public Hospital.

 

 

An employee of the Guyana Power and Light Company is now a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he came into contact with a live high voltage wire during maintenance work around the Stabroek Market in the vicinity of Demico House.

Workers from the utility company were called into action after a tree in the compound of the St. Andrews Kirk Church fell and burst several electrical wires around the area before ending up on the road.

It was during efforts to repair the damaged wire and restore power that the employee came into contact with the wire and was tossed from the pole. The employee was in full protective gear. Vendors in the area described the incident as horrific.

Corentyne businessman who is also fingered in the deadly Suriname pirate attack remanded on robbery charges

Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that the accused is a suspect in the deadly pirate attack in neighbouring Suriname, which left four fishermen dead, 11missing and five survivors. However, today he was before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on two robbery charges.
Makool Monolar called “Fyah” appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ court this morning and was slapped with two robbery charges. It is alleged that the #43 Village, Corentyne, businessman, back in April 2015, in Guyana’s territorial waters in the Corentyne river along with others, robbed a vessel named “Sir Navin”, two outboard engines valued $1.8. million property of Daneshwar Reddy. The men were armed with guns and knives the court was told.
Then in  August 2016, while being armed with guns and knives in the Corentyne River, he stole the vessel “Captain Finish” valued $2.3M property of Vikash Balkisson.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield objected to bail on the grounds that the businessman is a suspect in the recent pirate attack on four fishing vessels in Suriname.
The businessman was remanded to prison until May, 30th and the case was transferred to the Springlands Magistrates’ Court.

Fisherman’s remains washed ashore at #63 beach identified as one of the 12 unaccounted for in the deadly pirate attack

A body believed to be that of one of the 12 missing fishermen from that deadly pirate attack in Suriname, recently washed up at the Number 63 Beach, Corentyne Berbice on Thursday afternoon. Hours later, the body was positively identified as Gavin Outar, by one of his cousins. According to the Police, the body is in an advanced stage of decomposition and is clad in a blue 3/4 pants and has a tattoo on the left side of the chest. It was the tattoo which helped to identify the man as Outar from Sheet Anchor, East Canje, Berbice.

Four bodies were recovered earlier in  neighbouring Suriname. Five fishermen survived the deadly attack.  A few weeks ago pirates attacked four fishing boats. Some 20 men were beaten and thrown overboard.
The Police say the body is presently at Bailey’s Funeral Home number 5 village, West Coast Berbice awaiting a Post Mortem examination.

 

‘Day-Day’ slapped with two attempted murder charges

Dason Jupiter a 23-year-old West Ruimveldt man was today slapped with three attempted murder charges for two separate incidents when he appeared in the Georgetown before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.

The court was told that Jupiter discharged a loaded firearm at Doodnauth Danasri a market vendor with intent to commit murder. He was also charged with the armed robbery committed on the man’s his wife on April 2, at the La Penitence Market in front of the Twins drugs store. According to the Police report, Jupiter, while armed with a gun and in the company of others, robbed Meena Danasri of $150,000. The bandits shot the woman’s husband after he refused to hand over the money. It was while the man collapsed, the men took the money and made good their escape. The bullets grazed Danasri.

Jupiter was not required to plea to the two indictable charges when it was read to him by the Chief Magistrate.

And Jupiter was hit with another attempted murder charge, this time the alleged act was committed at Laing Avenue on March 2. It is alleged that he discharged a loaded firearm at Randy Sampson with intent to commit murder.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that the Police file is still incomplete and requested an adjournment for reports.
Jupiter was refused bail on the three charges and was remanded to prison until June 1.

Another suspect charged with America Street money-changer’s murder

Three months after the murder of America Street money-changer, Shawn Nurse, known as  ‘Fabulous’, another suspect was today hauled before the court and charged with the capital offence.

The 25-year old construction worker, Kacey Heyliger, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ court this morning, where the indictable charge was read to him.
In February this year, the 47-year old man was shot and killed during a robbery while he was plying his trade on America Street.
Heyliger was not required to plea to the charge and was remanded to prison until May 21.
 Kerwin DaSantos called ‘Buffy’ and George Hope called ‘Gregory were also jointly charged for  Nurse’s murder.
The nearby CCTV cameras around the area aided the Police’s case and helped to identify the men. After reviewing the footage the police were able to make the arrests.
 Just last year, Nurse was robbed, but was later able to identify three of the persons who had allegedly committed the offense.
