Middle Road La Penitence Mechanic charged for murder of Aurora Gold Mines manager

20-year-old Anthony Ragnauth, a  mechanic who hails from  Middle Road La Penitence, appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court where the indictable charge was read to him. The court was told that on May 21st, he murdered Aurora Gold Mines supply chain manager, Neil Whyte. Whyte was found naked on a bed in the Third-floor apartment of the Company’s Thomas Street, North Cummingsburg
Headquarters. His body bore multiple stab wounds. There are reports that the discovery was made shortly after a male who visited Whyte left the location.

Prior to Ragnauth appearing in court, the  Police in a release said that he admitted to the crime and he took investigators to a location at Fifth Street, Alberttown, where he handed over several items belonging to the victim, as well as a knife suspected to be the murder weapon.
 Ragnauth’s attorney, Latchmi Rahamat told the court that her client had his testicles squeezed with a baton by police officers who allegedly beat him while he was in custody. The accused was remanded to prison until June 18th and the matter transferred to the Chief Magistrates’ Court.

 

 

 

Canadian woman freed of heroin charge

A Canadian national today had a possession heroin charge dismissed against her for lack of evidence.

The woman, twenty-year-old Yuniyka Bovell was charged last year with possession 1.602 grams of heroin for the purpose of trafficking. She was being tried before Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where she had initially pleaded guilty.

Bovell’s attorney Siand Dhurjon made an application for the case to be dismissed since the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit failed to present the drug analysis report to the court.

The magistrate dismissed the case after ruling in the favour of Bovell’s attorney for the matter to be dismissed.

Reports are that the drugs were found hidden in Bovell’s suitcase on the day the search was conducted. Bovell was returning to Canada when the bust was made.

Former footballer committed to trial for attempted murder charge

A twenty-six-year-old footballer was on Monday committed to stand trial for attempted murder in the High Court.

 

The man, Julian Knox of Pearl, East Bank Demerara was committed by  Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan after the completion of the Preliminary Inquiry.

 

The Chief Magistrate found sufficient evidence against Knox to stand trial before judge and jury.

 

The charge against Knox states that on April 11th, 2018, at Coverden, East Bank Demerara, he unlawfully wounded Keith Dalton with intent to harm or murder him.

 

He was out on $250,000 bail. The matter was prosecuted by Police Inspector Gordon Mansfield.

Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield stated that the charge stemmed from an incident in which the accused had a misunderstanding with Dalton and this escalated into a fight, where Knox wounded Dalton with intent to kill him. He was later arrested and charged.

 

The prosecutor said that Knox and Dalton live five houses apart and are familiar with each other.

 

Two prisoner officers in custody after a pound of  marijuana is busted

The men were doing hospital duties when a parcel was handed over to one of the officers.  The information was filtered down to prison officials who called in the Police.
 The bust was done by CID ranks of the Brickdam Police Station on Sunday evening at the East Coast Bus park.
 The prison officer reportedly admitted to collecting the item from a civilian to take to a prisoner to eat. He said he was paid $20,000 dollars to do so, a release from the Director of Prisons said.
The release from the Director of Prisons, Gladwin Samuels added that based on information received, two prison officers collected a parcel from a civilian, while on duty at the GPHC. The parcel reportedly contained seeds, leaves and stems suspected to be marijuana. An operation was set up and the bus they were traveling in was stopped on the East Coast bus park area. A search was carried out by police and the suspected marijuana was found in a black bag in the possession of a prison officer.
The two prison officers who were together were escorted to the Brickdam Police Station. At the station, the police carried out their required functions and when the two parcels were weighed, it amounted to 1 pound. A prisoner officer admitted to collecting the item from a civilian to take to a prisoner to eat, the release said. According to the prison’s director, one of the officers said he was paid $20,000. They are presently in police custody.

Two foreign nationals remanded for entering Guyana illegally

The men appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Friday and were remanded to Prison until May 30.

The two men from the Islamic Republic of Mauritania entered Guyana illegally at Springlands, Berbice on May 21.

Ifra Diallo, 25 and Moussa N’Digue, 29, who are from the Northwestern Africa country, were charged separately. It is alleged that they entered Guyana by sea and failed to present themselves to an immigration officer.

Through an interpreter, the two French-speaking men pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield objected to the men being granted bail on the grounds that they are flight risks.

The men were remanded to prison and matter transferred to the Springlands Magistrates Court for May 30.

There are reports that the men are living in French Guiana. They reportedly board a boat from Suriname and came to Guyana.

 

Suspect admits to killing AGM manager Neil Whyte, murder weapon found – Police

The Police in a release to the media said the second suspect in custody has admitted to committing the crime. According to the Police, the suspect took investigators to a location at Fifth Street, Alberttown, where he handed over several items belonging to the victim as well as a knife suspected to be the murder weapon.
Neil Whyte, was employed with the Aurora Gold Mine Company as a manager. Whyte was found naked on a bed in the Third floor apartment of the Company’s Thomas Street Headquarters on Tuesday morning. His body had multiple stab wounds. There are reports that the discovery was made shortly after a male who visited Whyte left the location.
The Post Mortem examination conducted by  Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh at the GPHC gave the cause of death as Multiple Stab Wounds.
Whyte’s body has since been handed over to relatives for cremation at a later date the police release say.

Commercial sex worker ” Beyonce” charged with assaulting cops

Nicholas Kissoon of ‘B’ Field Sophia, Georgetown was hauled before Magistrate Leron Daly charged with a series of offences.
It is alleged that on May 23rd at the Brickdam Police Station he damaged a door along with other attachments valued at $34,667.
The 21-year-old male sex worker was also hit with two other charges for assaulting Police constables Tavon Watts and Ryan Fields. He was also charged with resisting arrest from Constable Fields who was executing his duties. The unrepresented man pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was released on $90,000 bail and will return to court on May 28th.

Independent psychiatric evaluation of Sandy to be presented in court next week

On Wednesday, May 30, James Bond, the attorney representing former Army Captain Orwain Sandy will be laying over an independent psychiatric evaluation of Sandy. The young man is before the court charged with the murder of his girlfriend, Reona Payne in March.

Bond requested an independent psychiatrist evaluation of Sandy after Government Psychiatrist Dr. Bhiro Harry said he was competent to stand trial after several hours of questioning.

Sandy through his attorney told the court on his appearance that he was receiving psychiatrist treatment for some time.

The promising young on March 31 shot his girlfriend 14 times with his service weapon after an argument.

Daby further remanded to prison

Maryann Daby made her 2nd appearance in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court this morning, this time before Chief Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan where she was further remanded to prison on the grounds of public safety.

The charges read that on May 13 at Albert Street and Thomas Land, Daby with the intent to commit murder, attempted to discharge a firearm at Police Constable Christopher Kissoon. She was not required to plea to the indictable charge.

On the same day in question, Daby had in her possession a .32 pistol along with 6 live rounds without having a licensed for that firearm.

The matter was first heard before Senior Magistrate, Judy Latchman who transferred the matter to the Chief Magistrate.

During today’s proceedings before the Chief Magistrate, Daby’s attorney Mark Waldron made another bail application which was denied. He told the court that his client is a licensed firearm holder since 2014.

Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield objected to the bail stating that  Maryann is not a licensed firearm holder, in fact, he told that court that the woman’s documents expired several months ago.

Mansfield also told that court that the police file is incomplete. Daby was remanded to prison until May 30th.

There are reports the off-duty Police officer approached Daby after she was seen allegedly firing several shots in the air.

The woman reportedly placed the gun forehead of the Policeman and pulled the trigger but the gun was empty. During her, May 13 court appearance, her lawyer, Mark Waldron told that court that no spent shells were found in the GMRSC compound.

Water vendor remanded for attempted murder

Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that the victim,  Ronald Khan, suffered from a punctured lung, 3 broken ribs and has several lacerations about his body.
He also said Khan’s condition is still listed as critical as he is expected to undergo another surgery.
 A  32-year-old Cooper Street, Albouystown resident was charged and remanded for the attempted murder of Khan.
Malcolm Cully, a water vendor was not required to plea to the indictable charge, when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The court was told that on May 18th at Cooper Street, Cully wounded Ronald Khan with intent to commit murder.
The young man was represented by Attorney-at-law George Thomas and he told the court that his client’s wife is in the hospital expecting the couple’s second child and that Cully was the sole breadwinner for his family.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that Khan’s condition is still listed as critical and he is expected to undergo another surgery.
Cully was remanded to prison until June 11th.
