Bandit shot and killed during robbery attempt

A bandit was shot and killed during a robbery attempt on Diamond Sales company in Thomas Street, Georgetown. While three men who are his suspected accomplices are in police custody.

The dead man has not been identified as yet.

This newscast understands that one of the four men entered the building while three kept watch outside in a black car. However; the armed bandit was shot at after the owner realized his business was under attack.

His accomplices were caught by a Police patrol that was alerted of the crime. They were unaware of what was taking place inside and continued to wait in the car when police arrested them.

One of the bandits called the business owner earlier in the day pretending to be interested in selling diamonds.

First time father killed on his way to see baby

A time of happiness quickly turned to sadness for a Rosignol, West Coast Berbice family after a 24-year-old father who was on his way to see his newborn baby for the first time at the New Amsterdam hospital was killed by a drug addict.

Mohamed Arshad Ally was hit repeatedly with an iron bar soon after he stepping out of his Bennet Dam home with his in-laws to visit his 21-year-old wife and baby in the hospital. He never laid eyes on his child whose arrival he was eagerly awaiting.

Ally was immediately rushed to the New Amsterdam hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The perpetrator and the victim’s in-laws had an ongoing feud and he frequently threatened to harm them. He has been identified as ‘Karim’ and was in and out of jail.

The young couple would have celebrated their first wedding anniversary in April. Ally is originally from East Bank Berbice but moved in with his wife’s family shortly after getting married.

The suspect was arrested and remains in Police custody.

JUT IN: Fishermen discover airplane wing in Corentyne river

The men were offshore Friday afternoon (March 01) plying their trade when they made the surprising discovery. They believe it is the wing of an airplane that was floating in the Corentyne River.

The seamen tied the iron part to their vessel and brought it back on shore at Springlands Corentyne behind La Grill Restaurant & Bar.

The news quickly spread and many curious villagers gathered to see for themselves.

A resident of the area told this newscast that the community is shocked and looking for answers.

The discovery was made around 2 pm. The resident said police are now on their way to the scene to investigate the discovery.
