Wanted Bulletin issues for Martain Blair
The Guyana Police Force today issued a wanted bulletin for on Martin Blair in connection with the murder committed on Daniel Boutrin between March 13 and 15 at D Field Sophia.
The Police are advising anyone with information that could lead the arrest of Martin Blair to please make contact the police on the following numbers: 227-2603, 226-6978, 226-6221, 219-3252, 227-1149, 225-8196, 268-2328, 268-2298/2222, 226-7065, emergency 911 or the nearest police station.
Sugar workers continue to protest for improved wages and salaries
Sugar workers are continuing their protest action with the aim of bring the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GUYSUCO) to the bargaining table to discuss wages and salary increases for the period 2019-2021.
Today workers from the Uitvlugt Estate joined the call, demanding that the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GUYSUCO) end its procrastination regarding wages and salary discussions with the Union. This protest comes on the heels of a picketing exercise by their colleagues of Albion and Blairmont estates.
The workers lamented that the GUYSUCO’s hierarchy has taken their cooperative attitude for granted. According to the union, the workers are of the belief that while they are being asked to be patient, they are learning that some in the top brass of the sugar company may be engaged in self-aggrandizement. This the workers pointed out does not send a positive message and undermines the calls for cooperation.
Prison escapee and murder accused recaptured at West Coast Demerara
Lusignan prison escapee, Phillip Jhagroo, has been recaptured. Jhagroo escaped the Lusignan prison along with two others, last year November.
Jhagroo was recaptured today, March 16th by ranks of the Guyana Police Force at Ruby, West Coast Demerara. the 47 year old Jhagroo was on remand for the murder of Mark Narine, known as Marco. That incident took place at School Dam, Richmond Hill, Leguan in 2019. Jhagroo is expected to be charged criminally with escaping from lawful custody.

Blairmont and Albion Sugar workers calling for improved wages and salaries
Sugar workers are back on the protest line, calling for the management of the corporation to resume discussions on the wages and salary increases.
Sugar workers from the Blairmont and Albion Estates today held a picketing exercise outside of the administrative offices of Blairmont and Albion calling on GUYSUCO to bring an end to what the union calls its protracted procrastination regarding wages/salaries negotiations.
The Union in a press statement said several months it resumed discussions with the sugar corporation on wages/salaries improvements but there appears to be no movement on the part of GUYSUCO.
The wait, the corporation said unfortunately moved from days, to weeks then into months with no response from the corporation.
In a January 28th correspondence, the union said it reminded the Corporation of its undertaking to respond to the Union and workers.
Subsequently, at a meeting on March 09, 2021, the GAWU and the GuySuCo resumed discussions. However, give the protracted period, both the union and workers had high expectations that they would receive a favourable response but that was not the case. The corporation instead called on the union to provide proposals for wages/salaries for the period 2019-2021.
4-month-old baby girl dies, father’s foot was found rest on her abdomen
The death of a 4 month old baby is under investigation by the Guyana Police Force. The child has been identified as Kaylee Atkinson of Annandale, Essequibo Coast.
The Police in a press statement said the mother related to them that when she awoke to breastfeed Kaylee last Sunday morning, she saw her husband’s right foot on the baby’s chest and belly. It was said that a whitest substance was coming out of her mouth also, as she lay motionless.
The 17-year-old mother said she woke her sleeping husband and together they rushed four month old Kaylee to the Suddie Public Hospital, where she was examined by a doctor and pronounced dead on arrival.
The woman told the police that is normal for her 18-year-old husband consume alcohol and return home intoxicated.
The teenage mother explained that her husband returned home on March 13, intoxicated at approximately 20:10hrs. The young mother said her husband went into the kitchen where he fell asleep on the floor. Sometime after, and her two children 4 months Kaylee and a 23-month-old retired to bed. Her husband joined them later.
The teenage couple and their young children lived in the lower flat of a two storied wooden and concrete building.
Pressure mounting for ‘Sweetman’ Rudy to be removed from the Linden Hospital
Nurses from the Linden Hospital Complex today took to their protest action in front of the Ministry of Health as they continue to demand the removal of the Hospital’s CEO Rudolph Small.
Small accused the nurses of abandoning their posts to be with their ‘Sweetman’. First Vice President of the Guyana Public Service Union, Dawn Gardner said the union is appalled the Ministry of Health’s decision to reinstate small after he was removed from his post.
Small has since apologized for his statement, however the Union has said that it was not acceptable, as the CEO was very disrespectful to the nurses.

11-year-old boy shot dead by bandits in Sophia robbery
The Guyana Police Force is investigating an alleged murder committed on an 11-year-old student Anthony Cort who was reportedly shot dead by one of two bandits during a robbery earlier today (2021/03/11).
According to the police their investigations reveal that the child was with his mother two houses from where he resides when two males wearing face masks and armed with handguns invaded the property belonging to a 44 year-old businesswoman. The 11 year-old was in the upper flat of the home located “C” Field Sophia in the company of others when the bandits approached the victims at the said bottom flat and held them at gunpoint. They were relieved of two cellphones valued $80,000 each, two gold bands valued $100,000, two gold finger rings valued $100,000, one gold chain valued $100,000 and $80,000 cash. The suspects then ordered the said victims to the upper flat of the house via a northern door during which, Anthony (the deceased) was about to exit a north eastern bedroom, when one of the suspects discharged a round hitting Anthony to his left upper shoulder. The suspects then ran north, jumped a zinc fence and made good their escape. One 9MM spent shell was found near the body. EMT Ambulance Services responded and pronounced the child dead. The body was taken to Lyken Funeral Parlour, awaiting a Post Mortem Examination.
