West Coast Berbice man chopped to death, police issued wanted bulletin for another WCB man

West Coast Berbice man was hacked to death Tuesday afternoon. The police are reporting that a wound was seen on his left side face, one to the back of his head, one on his left side hand (wrist area), and one on the right hand  and three fingers completely chopped off. The deceased was identified as Surijdeo Deochand, called ‘Sarjie’, a 68-year-old pensioner of Number 3 Village, West Coast Berbice.

According to the Police their enquiries disclosed that Deochand’s niece Kamala Persaud, and another relative made the discovery after receiving word that he was chopped and had to be taken to the hospital. Deochand lived alone in a two storied wooden house in an unfenced yard.

The Police report added that when relatives arrived at his house, Deochand was lying on the ground in the lower flat of his house in a pool of blood. The police were called and arrived on the scene immediately. Deochan was taken to the Fort Wellington Hospital by the police where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty. The motive for the killing is not known.

Meanwhile, the Guyana Police Force has issued a wanted bulletin for Mark Anthony Henry in connection with the Murder of Surijdeo Deochand.

According to the Police the 24 year old suspect’s last known address was given at Lot 32 South Public Road, Mon Choisi, West Coast Berbice. The Police are asking anyone with information that may lead to the arrest to contact the nearest Police Station.

Jagdeo ordered to pay Ferguson $20 M or face imprisonment

Vice President and leader of the People’s Progressive Party, Bharrat Jagdeo has been ordered by the High Court to pay former Government Minister Annette Ferguson $20 million for libel.

Ferguson moved to the court after Jagdeo accused her gifting herself several plots of land while she was communities Minister with responsibility for housing.

According to Ferguson at the time when the allegations hit the press, she felt really hurt, her entire family was hurt and exposed. She recalls the many days her siblings complained of members of the public pointing fingers at them and making all sorts of remarks at them

 

The former Minister said she never committed a crime. She noted that she applied for a house lot, like every other Guyanese and was allocated just one plot of land.

She added that Jagdeo made those utterances without any evidence to prove what he was saying. According to Ferguson, God is always on her side as she reiterated that she feels vindicated.

The matter was heard before Justice Sandra Kurtzious who ruled that Jagdeo must pay Ferguson $20 million and cost in the sum of $75,000.

According to the order, should Jagdeo fail to pay the sum then he could face imprisonment or have his assets confiscated.

The Guyana Police Force would like to inform that the woman who died in the shooting incident aback Better Hope, East Coast Demerara on Monday night has been positively identified as Savita Rajkumar, called ‘Debbie’.

On 2021/03/23, at about 10:00 hrs., Shenike Williams, a 26-year-old housewife of Friendship  Squatting area, EBD went to Sparendaam Police Station and claimed that she received information that her mother was involved in a shooting incident with the police and she came to identify her mother.

She was taken to Lyken Funeral Home, Georgetown where the female body was shown to her and she positively identified the deceased to be that of her mother Savita Rajkumar, of Better Hope (South) Squatting Dam, ECD.

Car suspected to have been used in ‘Paper Short’ killing, found engulfed in flames on the highway

A car believed to be the getaway car used in the execution of Ricardo Fagundes aka “Paper Shorts” or “Paper” was found engulfed in flames at Swan on the Soesdyke Linden Highway, Sunday night.

The gunmen were seen entering a white Fielder Wagon following the shooting outside of the popular Palm Court Restaurant and Bar on Main Street.

Surveillance video shows two gunmen discharging some ten rounds at Fagundes before entering the front and back passenger seats of the white vehicle and fleeing the scene.
