Update On Beterverwagting Fire
The dead have been identified as Leonard Pollard, his reputed wife Latoya Telford and their daughter Nakisha Pollard. Nakisha is to be just over a year old. Reports are that Pollard and Telford were having domestic problems and Pollard for most of yesterday threatened to cause harm to the family, but those threats were not taken seriously.

A Jamaican national and a Guyanese man arrested for the murder of Tain
A Jamaican national and a Guyanese man who was deported from the U.S were on Saturday arrested for the murder of Tain, Corentyne domestic worker, Lilawattie Mohamed.
There are reports that the police acting on information made the arrest and strongly believe that the two men were the hit men, who were paid by an overseas based Guyanese to carry out the murder.
Police swooped down on the Jamaican National’s house at 2nd Street, Rose Hall and conducted an extensive search where a number of items were reportedly taken from the house.
Three persons from the house were also taken into custody. Details are unfolding.

Seven arrested for Corentyne killing, suspected murder weapon recovered
Seven persons are now in custody as police in Berbice intensify their investigation into the murder of Corentyne businessman, Danian Jagdeo.
The father of four was killed on Wednesday at a shop in Adventure Village, during a robbery by armed gunmen.
Commander of ‘B’ Division, Ian Amsterdam said that the arrested persons hail from the Town of Rose Hall and surrounding areas. During the police operation police also recovered a revolver believed to be used in the murder. The weapon was recovered at the home of a murder suspect who was recently released from prison.
The weapon will be sent for testing to see if it matches the warhead that was recovered from the crime scene.
The commander said initial information revealed that the plan was hatched in Rose Hall by suspects who are known to police.
The operation to arrest the men was spearheaded by Philbert Wilburg, the officer in charge of the Rose Hall outpost.
Jagdeo was at the time delivering phone cards to one of his customers when the bandits pounced on him.
The bandits took away an undisclosed amount of cash and a quantity of phone cards, then calmly rode away on a motorcycle, which was abandoned a short distance from the crime scene.
The man’s wife and children were in total shock, upon hearing the news his wife collapsed on the scene.
Crippled man charged with murder
24-year-old Shelton George has been charged with the 2014 murder of waitress Debra Blackman.
The suspect had to be wheeled into the court house since he was crippled shortly after Blackman’s murder. He was shot in Suriname where he allegedly fled for safety by another bandit who was on the run from law enforcement officials here.
The suspect was represented by Attorney- at-Law Melville Duke who requested a speedy trial for his client due to his spinal injury.
He will return to court on February 16, 2017.
