Extradition proceedings to start on Friday for US murder accused Troy Thomas

When the matter was called for the 2nd time this morning in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, Thomas had a battery of lawyers headed by  Attorneys-at-Law Nigel Hughes, Bernard DaSilva and Darren Wade all representing him. Magistrate Issac- Marcus will be hearing arguments on behalf of the Governments of Guyana and the United States.
 Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield is representing Guyana while Attorney-at-Law Stacy Gooding is representing the Government of the United States. Gooding disclosed statements that she said contained evidence against Thomas to the prosecution and defence.
The attorney handed over about three folders containing documents. Among the documents is a statement by one Armilla Gladstone, whose purpose, Goodings said is to tender documents on behalf of the U.S government.
The documents also include a copy of statements issued under Section six of the Fugitive Act and statements from two senior police officers in the Guyana Police Force.
US fugitive Troy Anthony Thomas was arrested by local police at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara last week.
Thomas is wanted in the US for the 2011 murder of Guyanese Keith Frank who was killed outside a party in South Richmond Hill in Queens. US law enforcement agents believe that Thomas within hours of the murder fled the jurisdiction and crossed over to Canada from New York State. In Canada, he reportedly used travel documents belonging to a relative and boarded a Caribbean Airlines flight arriving in Guyana in the early hours of the morning before the bulletin for his arrest reached Interpol.
 Thomas has been living in Guyana for the past 8 years.

Dead are Dextroy Cordis also known as Dutty 46yrs, of Grove, EBD, Kwame Assanah, age unknown, of Buxton, ECD and Errol Adams also known as Dynamite, 57 years, a known character of Dartmouth, Essequibo Coast and Buxton, ECD. A fourth accomplice sped away on a motorcycle.

Make up artist “Lola” arrested for allegedly habouring US based murder accused

The murder took place in 2011 and the fugitive Troy Anthony Thomas of 32nd Street, South Ozone Park, Queens, New York, U.S.A was arrested this morning in Guyana for the offence.

The Police say he allegedly murdered Keith Frank on December 11, 2011. The arrest took place around 2:00 this morning at a location in Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara. A release by the Guyana Police Force noted that the intelligence-led operation by ranks of the Guyana Police Force which commenced since January 31, 2018, has resulted in the apprehension of a murder suspect who fled the United States of America after an arrest warrant was issued.

The Police also arrested Popular Make-Up artiste and Social Media personality Lolita Callendar called “Lola” of East Ruimveldt who is wanted by the police for threatening behavior and she is also suspected of harboring fugitive Troy Thomas. The police investigation is ongoing.

Clothes vendor stabbed to death at Buxton   

The man was identified as Leon Delph of Quamina and Waterloo Streets, Georgetown. The dead man’s reputed wife, Rushelly Francis said the 34-year-old man was stabbed twice to his neck by the known assailant. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
There are reports that the incident stemmed from a fall out 7 years ago between Delph and the suspect. Delph plied his trade in front of the Discount Store on Regent and Wellington Streets.
 The police are investigating the matter.

 

Bishop’s High School Teacher Remanded

A former high school, Coen Jackson was today remanded to prison over allegations that he was engaged in sexual activity with a child under the age of consent. The age of consent in Guyana is 16.

Jackson who was attached at the Bishop’s High appeared before Magistrate Leron Daley in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court where he was not required to plea to the indictable offence.

The thirteen nine year old former teacher was accused of grooming students under his charge for sexual relations with him, when they attain the age of consent. However, Jackson has denied the allegations leveled against him.
