Belle West man dies in accident
Police on the West Bank of Demerara are investigating a fatal accident which occurred yesterday evening on the Canal #2 Polder Public Road.
Dead is motor cyclist Neil Nunes, 47 years old. At the time of the accident, Nunes and his pillion rider 35-year-old Nichola Garnette were heading in the opposite direction to the car they collided with. The two according to the police lived at 81 Belle West Canal #2 Polder.
The Police in a press statement said that the car bearing license plate number PVV 1097 was driven by a 30-year-old from Belle West also on the West Bank Demerara.

Both Nunes and Garnette sustained multiple injuries which saw them being transferred from the West Demerara Regional Hospital to the Georgetown Public Hospital but Nunes succumbed to his injuries at the GPHC.
The Police said that the driver passed his Breathalyzer test but remained in custody to assist with the investigation.

Man fatally shot, police Sergeant and a Corporal injured.
The police say on arrival at the home, Maxwell who was armed with a cutlass, was promptly disarmed, arrested and taken to the Vigilance Police Station; and whilst being processed in the Enquiries Office, Maxwell reportedly whipped out a knife and violently attacked and injured two Subordinate Officers who tried to subdue him, he also damaged several windows in the process .
The release stated that the prisoner, still armed, swiftly entered the driver’s seat of the police vehicle that brought him to the station which still had it’s engine running and drove off in an attempt to escape. However, he subsequently crashed that vehicle into another police vehicle in the compound. He was shot during the process according to the police.
Maxwell was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and was pronounced dead on arrival.
A thorough investigation has been launched; so far a number of statements have been obtained.
