Daughter charged with mother’s murder

In a dramatic turn of events, the woman who is accused of murdering her 71-year-old mother fainted in the courtroom Wednesday morning and had to be rushed to the hospital by police ranks.

Forty-two-year-old Camila Jameer was very emotional throughout the proceedings. She reportedly confessed to slitting her mother, Rookmin Jameer’s throat at their Tempe, West Coast Berbice home over the weekend. The woman even led the police to the murder weapon.


When the woman appeared before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh, in the Fort Wellington Magistrates’ Court she fainted. Magistrate Singh opted to take the sworn statements from the police and posited that he would not read the charges to the woman given her current state. Up to news time, the woman was still seeking medical attention at the Fort Wellington Hospital.

Joycelyn’s murder has left family members shocked, many of whom are still struggling to come to terms with the grim reality.

6 Persons in custody over bust over 34lbs Marijuana bust in New Amsterdam

The drug bust took place at two separate locations in New Amsterdam and has landed 6 persons in custody.
 According to a police report, the first bust took place at a Police Checkpoint on the Eastern Side of the Berbice Bridge access road on Sunday, where 10 lbs of compressed cannabis was found stashed in a speaker box in the trunk of a car. Police say the drugs were in 10 parcels. The driver and three passengers were taken into custody.
The police said an hour later, they intercepted another hire car in New Amsterdam and two large parcels of cannabis were found in the truck. The police say the prohibited substance weighed eleven kilograms. 6 persons are currently in custody as Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
