Two charged with the piracy murder of four fishermen

Two Belvedere, Corentyne Berbice men were today charged with the piracy murder of Kaywal Kissoon, Lamar Petrie, Marvin Tamessar and Vishnu Seeram. The bodies of Tamessar and Seeram are still to be recovered.

The men Narine Dhanraj, 30 and Suresh Sundat, 22 of Belvedere squatting area appeared in the number 51 Village Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Peter Hugh where the indictable charge was read to them.

It is alleged that the incident occurred between October 5th and 13th within the vicinity of the #53 and #58 foreshore.
The two men were charged under section 7 of the hijacking and piracy act of Guyana, Chapter 10:08 and were remanded to prison until November 7th. The matter was transferred to the Whim Magistrates’ Court.

Family members of the late fishermen stood outside of the courtroom in distress as the men made their appearance. They later spoke to this newscast.

Jamwantie Kisson, 54, the mother of Kaywal Kissoon said she is thankful for the work of the Guyana Police force so that she can have justice for her son.

The woman related that her son was very loving and caring and was never involved in any problems at sea before.

She said she is disturbed as to how cruel her son’s life came to an end.

The father of Marvin Tamessar, said he feels great knowing that he will get justice for his son, but he is still hoping to at least locate his son’s remains.

 Police commander Calvin Brutus said that three other suspects are on the run and the Police will issue wanted bulletins for them.

A male nurse and the driver of the car are now dead following an early morning accident in Linden.

The accident occurred around 3:40 this morning at Obama Drive, Linden according to the Police.
The Police report noted that based on initial inquiries done so far, it was revealed that the ambulance which was coming from Georgetown collided with the car which was going in the opposite direction.
According to the Police, motor car  PXX 4739 was proceeding south along the eastern side of the road in the vicinity of Obama Drive which has a slight left bend. The driver of the ambulance alleges that he recognized two cars proceeding at a fast rate of speed in the opposite direction, when suddenly the driver of motor car PRR 781 overtook the other car on the eastern side and collided head-on in his lane. As a result of the collision, the driver and occupants of both vehicles received injuries about their bodies. They were taken to the Linden Hospital Complex by public-spirited persons where they were pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver of the ambulance 39 yr. old  Rametse Paul, of 1045 Phase 1B Wisroc Wismar, Linden along with Shona Douglas of Buck Hill, Wismar Linden were both injured in the accident.
Police investigations are ongoing.
