Five new COVID cases recorded

The Ministry of Public Health has reported that five more persons have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, taking the total to 320. Within the last 24 hours, 75 tests have been conducted.

As of July 17, the country has recorded 19 deaths and 156 recoveries.

There are 145 active cases in isolation at various facilities across Guyana and eight persons in institutional quarantine. The COVID-19 ICU is currently housing five patients.

To date, 3,558 tests have been conducted with 3,238 yielding negative results.

Citizens are reminded to continue practising social distancing in the workplace, public spaces, and while using public transportation to reduce the spread of the coronavirus disease. They are also reminded to practise frequent hand washing/sanitising and always wear a face mask if they have to go out.

The WHO is reporting that as of July 17, globally positive cases stand at 13,616,593 with 585,727 deaths. While in the Regions of the Americas, positive cases now stand at 7,154,840 with a total of 297,855 deaths.

Contractor shot dead on Durban Street

There are reports that the man was shot multiple times about his body at his worksite. The dead man was identified as Dave Premsukh of Lusignan East Coast Demerara. A  father of three children.
Sources told this news outlet that the man was at the location when the men pounced on him.
The incident occurred just around 5:30 this afternoon. The man was picked up in an unconscious state by workers and public-spirited citizens and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The motive for the shooting is unclear at this time. The police are probing the murder.

Six more persons recover from COVID-19

As of July 16, 2020, Guyana has recorded one hundred and sixty-two (162) recoveries from the novel coronavirus. This comes as the Ministry of Public Health is reporting that six more persons have recuperated from COVID-related illnesses.

The Ministry also reported another confirmed case taking the total to 314; as well as another death, making that the 19 persons to have succumbed to the virus.

Warning – GRAPHIC IMAGE: Police seeking help to identify body of deceased man found on Rosignol Public Road

The Guyana Police Force is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the body of a male which was found on Rosignol Public Road, WBB on June 26, 2020 about 05:00h. 

The body which is of East Indian ancestry, about 40 years old, 5′ 5″ tall , medium built, was clad in a pair of blue long jeans and black short sleeve jersey, is presently at Bailey’s Funeral Home, West Coast Berbice awaiting identification and a post mortem examination to ascertain the cause of his death.

Anyone with information leading to his identification is asked to contact the Guyana Police Force on telephone numbers ‪232-0313, 232-0291, 911 or the nearest Police Station.

 

36-year old man is Guyana’s 19th COVID-19 related death

The Ministry of Public Health confirmed that a 36 year old male is Guyana’s 19th COVID-19 death.

He passed at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation Wednesday afternoon.

The Ministry on Wednesday reported five more persons have tested positive for COVID-19 taking the total to 313. This follows 39 tests that were conducted within the last 24 hours.

Additionally, a 74-year-old man was Guyana’s 18th COVID-related death. He passed away at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation on Sunday, July 12. Recoveries currently number at 156.

There are 139 active cases in isolation at various facilities across Guyana and 10 persons in institutional quarantine. The COVID-19 ICU is currently housing five patients.

To date, 3,418 tests have been conducted with 3,105 yielding negative results.
