Cuban National on the run following double murder

Dead are 34yr old Tara Krishnaran and her 11 year-old daughter, both of Princess Street, Lodge.

Their motionless bodies were discovered by the woman’s father.  Tara was found with a wound to the back of her head, left side temple and the left side of her face. Her daughter’s body was found with a wound about six inches in length to her neck and what appeared to be blood on her private parts. A blood stained hammer and knife were also retrieved.

According to a police report, the murders occurred between 20:00hrs on December 25, 2020 and 21:00hrs on December 26, 2020 at the said address allegedly by a known suspect who is currently being sought.

The police report added that enquiries from an individual who also occupied the said house and is the father of the dead woman revealed that the suspect and the woman had an argument about 17:30hrs on December 25th and a fight ensued between the couple.

However, the father said he retired to bed, since according to him, the couple usually fight; at about 08:00hrs on December 26th the man said he woke up and did not check on the victims, having thought that she went to work and took her child as she usually does.

At about 20:30hrs, after realising that he was locked inside, the man said he made checks to the victim’s room  and discovered his daughter and granddaughter lying motionless on the bed and ground, respectively.

The bodies are currently at the Lyken’s Funeral Home awaiting a postmortem.

Investigations are ongoing.

Prison escapee back behind bars

The freedom for murder accused Ishaka John, the man who escaped from the  Lusignan prison holding bay on Wednesday was cut short after he was recaptured by the police last night.

The acting Director of Prisons is reporting that around 20:00 hrs the Police acting on information received conducted checks along
the Mon Repos Line Top where they recaptured prisoner Ishaka John.
John managed to escape gunshots from the Police and Prison guards on the ground to halt his escape bid. He was seen by three ranks of both the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Prison Service as he was on top of the fence, several shots were fired in an effort to apprehend him but he continued to run in an eastern direction between towers four, five and six.
The Prison Administration would like to express thanks to the ranks of the Guyana Police Force for their commitment and dedication that led to
the speedy recapture of the prisoner.

CANU bust ecstasy pills, cocaine, and marijuana in Berbice operation

Two persons are in custody following a drug bust by the Customs Anti-narcotics unit on Wednesday in Berbice. Head of Canu James Singh told this newscast that the drugs were found in a “salt bag” during an operation by ranks of the unit.
The items include 8.5 kg of marijuana, 28 ecstasy pills, 9.9 grams of cocaine, and 18.1 grams of methamphetamine. The investigations into the matter are ongoing.

Murder accused escapes from the Lusignan prison

The search is on for an accused murderer who escaped from the Lusignan Prison this morning.

The prisoner has been identified as Ishaka John of lot 109 ‘A’ Field Sophia. According to a release from the Guyana Police Force, the 25-year-old man escaped from the Lusignan Prison Holding Bay between 02:00hrs-02:20hrs this morning.

The release noted that the escapee was seen by three ranks of both the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Prison Service as he was on top of the fence, several shots were fired in an effort to apprehend him but he continued to run in an eastern direction between towers four, five and six. It is unclear if the prisoner was hit and a search is currently being conducted around the area and its surroundings. An investigation has also been launched into the circumstances surrounding the escape.

GUYOIL workers embark on industrial action lack of salary increase and bonus

Workers attached to the government-owned Guyana Oil Company GUYOIL have staged industrial action over the refusal by the company to pay the workers a salary increase for this year. While the workers staged a sit-in, the pumps were still operational as managers and supervisors took on the job.
The union is demanding an 8% salary increase with the use of performance appraisals and a 5% salary increase across the board. The company said that there were some setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic during the year. The Company wrote to the Clerical and Commerical Union indicating to them that GUYOIL’s businesses were severely affected during the period.
Speaking with reporters, union president Sherwood Clarke said the workers are disappointed, hence the action.
Clarke said the union is open to negotiation but is not about to accept the company’s position.
At GUYOIL’s Sheriff Street location workers held plaque cards to tell their stories. Many of the workers are single parents and spoke of the hardships they have endured during this period.

Police probing the murder of Retired Priest

The 82- year-old retired priest lived alone in a two-storied concrete house on Vlissengen Road, Lodge. He was identified as Chuck-A-Sang. The police are reporting that what appeared to be seven stab wounds were seen about his body and his forehead appeared to be swollen.
According to a police report the murder took place between December 18th and 21st at the said address.
The police report said their enquiries revealed that his daughter Renata Chuck-A-Sang, last spoke to the man on December 18th about 08:00hrs. However, on December 21st around 15:00hrs, she called her father via Whatsapp and his phone rang out. She later then went to his residence but was unable to contact him. She then went to the residence of the current Priest Monsell Alves, of North-East La Penitence and she told him she was unable to contact her dad.
As a result, she along with the said Priest went to her father’s home. Alves opened his office door, and they went up an inner stairway to the upper flat of the house, where they discovered the body of her father lying motionless on the floor clad in white briefs.
What appeared to be seven stab wounds were seen about his body and His forehead appeared to be swollen. The body was escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty. The body is presently lying at Lyken’s Funeral Home awaiting a Post Mortem Examination. Investigations are in progress.
