Former Minister of Public Infrastructure David Patterson is expected in court on Monday over an allegation of defrauding the Demerara Harbour Bridge
Patterson was invited to the Special Organised Crime Unit today where he was arrested and charged with attempting to defraud the Demerara Harbour Bridge of approximately $167 Million dollars. However, the former Minister was released on his own recognizance and told that he has to appear in court on Monday. That investigation has to do with the contract for the consultancy for the New Demerara River Crossing in 2016. Patterson who turned up with his lawyer at SOCU Headquarters was fingerprinted and had his picture taken before he was released. The former General Manager of the Demerara Harbour Bridge Rawlston Adams is also expected to be charged.

Police Investigators were summoned to the Police Service Commission this morning to investigate a break and enter that was reported at the Commission’s Kingston Headquarters.
When this newscast arrived on the scene, CID ranks were checking around the area as they tried to gather evidence on the matter. There are reports that a number of files and flash drives went missing from the commission. Now the break in comes at a time while the commission is engaged in a court battle with several senior officers of the force who believe that they were sidelined for promotion.
Chief Justice Roxane George-Wiltshire today dismissed one of the two election petitions filed by the APNU-AFC and the coalition said they disagree with the CJ’s ruling and will appeal.
Senior Counsel Roysdale Forde in a late afternoon press briefing following the ruling said petition 99 was thrown out on the basis that former president David Granger was not served in time.
According to Forde, the Chief Justice’s decision is not reflective of jurisprudence’s importance. The 2nd petition will be heard on February 12th.
