Breakthrough in the murder investigation of cheese vendor, taxi driver arrested

The 34-year-old man from Eccles on the East Bank of Demerara reportedly transported the killers to and from the location. He was reportedly paid $30,000 dollars after he completed the drops. Troy Paton was shot dead while he plied his trade on Robb Street, on August 15th, by gunmen who also robbed him of his jewellery.
A police source told this newscast that the taxi driver has also revealed the identities and whereabouts of the three suspects. He told police investigators that he knew the three men for about five months and on the day of the murder he picked them up at Demico around the Stabroek Area and was directed to drive to Robb Street. After spotting their target, the bandits allegedly told the taxi driver to park on Alexander Street between North Road and Robb Street, which he did.
At the scene of the shooting, eyewitnesses told reporters that the men came on foot from Alexander Street, Bourda. The driver recalled hearing an explosion after the men left the car. Shortly after he said the bandits then re-entered the car.
There are also reports that after the men left the scene, the car crashed at the corners of Camp and Robb Streets.
However, the driver continued his journey. He said he dropped off one of the men in Albouystown, another in Charlestown and the third in Sandy Babb Street Kitty. The taxi driver reportedly hid his crashed car on the West Bank of Demerara.
Police investigators were able to crack the case after arresting the taxi driver who also took them to his hidden car.

Mother kills her 3-year-old child

The child was reportedly stabbed to his chest and back by his mother at their home at 585, 15th Street Foulis Enmore, East Coast Demerara this morning.
Dead is Ramdeo Perniea. The child succumbed to the injuries shortly after his arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
His 26-year-old mother reportedly told reporters that she had a dream that she would die today and she was taking him with her since he was her favorite.
 The woman remains in custody as the Police continue their investigations.

Update to Freeman Street murder: Dead is Shennise Lawrence of Broad Street, Charlestown. There are reports that the couple had their ups and downs during their 5-year relationship.

Freeman Street residents said the knife was left stuck in the woman’s throat, while her reputed husband, Jermaine Bristol, who committed the heinous act went to the police station to inform them that he had killed the woman. Relatives were emotional as the woman’s remains were removed from the house she was murdered in.

Police probing hit and run fatal accident

The accident occurred just after 5:00 this morning at Land of Canaan Public Road on the East Bank of Demerara.

 There are reports that the unidentified man was attempting to cross the road when he was struck by a truck which sped away from the scene. The man died on the spot.

 

According to a Police report, the accident involved a green double axel motor lorry, registration number unknown, the driver’s name, race, age, and address are also unknown.

 

The police said an eye-witness alleged that he was proceeding North along the Western side of the said road when he saw the green motor lorry which was proceeding South along the Eastern side of the road colliding with a pedestrian who was attempting to cross the roadway from East to West. 

 

According to the Police, the eye-witness recounted that the lorry driver then swerved to the Western lane and continued to proceed South at a fast rate of speed. The eyewitness then came out of his vehicle and attempted to stop other vehicles but according to the witness, another motorcar which was also proceeding South, ran over the injured pedestrian as he lay on the road and continued to proceed South. The eyewitness then contacted the police. 

 

The Body is currently at the Lyken’s Funeral Home.

Two taxi drivers were today released on $50,000 bail each when they appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged with possession of ammunition.

The men Amishwar Veersammy, 30 of Herstelling, EBD and Davindra Sammy, 21 before the Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan where they were charged separately.

 The court was told that on August 19, at Farm, East Bank Demerara the men had in their possession a 9mm ammunition for which they were not licensed to carry.

 Reports are that on August 19, ranks of the Providence Police Station acting on information that two men parked in motor cars were discharging firearms into the air went to the East Bank Demerara Community.

 At the scene, the two accused Veersammy and Sammy in motor car PVV 1984 and PWW 9864 respectively were parked alongside each other at Farm, East Coast Demerara.

The police after searching both vehicles only found one .9mm ammunition in each vehicle, no guns were found. The men will return to court on September 10.

Three Berbicians remanded, while a 14-year-old released on bail after they were charged with trafficking 22 pounds of cocaine.

Denzil Park, 49, his 14-year-old son, Ricardo DenHart, and 47 Patrick Ram appeared before the Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Friday and was slapped a drug trafficking charge.
This was after the men were allegedly busted with 22 pounds of cocaine in the parking lot at Popeyes Restaurant, Vlissengen Road on August 14th. The men denied the charge. In the court, the men were represented by Attorney-at-Law Nigel Hughes who appeal to the magistrate for reasonable bail.

Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield, told the court that the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit officers were on a sting operation at Popeyes Fast Food Restaurant on Vlissengen Road parking lot when they observed two vehicles.

The officers observed DenHart coming out from a motor car PWW 8454 with a multicoloured shopping bag over to minibus PKK 6944 to Ram. Park and his son were in the minibus also.

Mansfield said the officers approached both vehicles and conducted a search. Behind the driver seat of the minibus, they found several square brick like parcels which contained cocaine.

According to the Prosecutor, there is also CCTV surveillance footage from the restaurant to support the case.

The Chief Magistrates released the 14-year-old on $200,000 and remanded the other defendants to prison until 31st August.
