Update to Freeman Street murder: Dead is Shennise Lawrence of Broad Street, Charlestown. There are reports that the couple had their ups and downs during their 5-year relationship.
Freeman Street residents said the knife was left stuck in the woman’s throat, while her reputed husband, Jermaine Bristol, who committed the heinous act went to the police station to inform them that he had killed the woman. Relatives were emotional as the woman’s remains were removed from the house she was murdered in.
Police probing hit and run fatal accident
The accident occurred just after 5:00 this morning at Land of Canaan Public Road on the East Bank of Demerara.
There are reports that the unidentified man was attempting to cross the road when he was struck by a truck which sped away from the scene. The man died on the spot.
According to a Police report, the accident involved a green double axel motor lorry, registration number unknown, the driver’s name, race, age, and address are also unknown.
The police said an eye-witness alleged that he was proceeding North along the Western side of the said road when he saw the green motor lorry which was proceeding South along the Eastern side of the road colliding with a pedestrian who was attempting to cross the roadway from East to West.
According to the Police, the eye-witness recounted that the lorry driver then swerved to the Western lane and continued to proceed South at a fast rate of speed. The eyewitness then came out of his vehicle and attempted to stop other vehicles but according to the witness, another motorcar which was also proceeding South, ran over the injured pedestrian as he lay on the road and continued to proceed South. The eyewitness then contacted the police.
The Body is currently at the Lyken’s Funeral Home.
Two taxi drivers were today released on $50,000 bail each when they appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged with possession of ammunition.
The men Amishwar Veersammy, 30 of Herstelling, EBD and Davindra Sammy, 21 before the Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan where they were charged separately.
The court was told that on August 19, at Farm, East Bank Demerara the men had in their possession a 9mm ammunition for which they were not licensed to carry.
Reports are that on August 19, ranks of the Providence Police Station acting on information that two men parked in motor cars were discharging firearms into the air went to the East Bank Demerara Community.
At the scene, the two accused Veersammy and Sammy in motor car PVV 1984 and PWW 9864 respectively were parked alongside each other at Farm, East Coast Demerara.
The police after searching both vehicles only found one .9mm ammunition in each vehicle, no guns were found. The men will return to court on September 10.
Tremor sent Guyanese in panic mood across the country
