Crime Chief Suspended as police probe whistleblower’s allegations

Crime Chief Lyndon Alves was sent on leave as the Guyana Police Force continues to probe allegations made in the press by a whistleblower. The Deputy Commissioner of Police will be off the job to facilitate a full investigation into allegations of corruption and misconduct.

The office of Professional Responsibility, the investigating arm of the Guyana Police Force have been called in to probe the allegations.

The whistleblower alleged collusion between some policemen from B Division and questionable characters committing acts of terror in the Ancient County.  The most damning revelation was revealed in the Kaieteur News on Monday of an alleged plot to kill Berbice’s best cop, a constable of the Guyana Police Force stationed on the Corentyne in Berbice is said to be the hitman.

 It was also reported that a hefty down payment of $1.4million was paid to “take out” the “Berbice best cop”  by a drug dealer. It is also alleged that one of the three bandits who was killed in a shootout with the police at Black Bush Polder, Kelvin ‘Kelly’ Shivgobin was also an associate of a detective.
 Earlier, Minister of Public Security Khemraj Ramjattan said he wanted further investigations into alleged collusion between the police and criminal elements to be conducted.

Prior to his death, Shivgobin was wanted by the police for the murder of the Samaroo brothers who were killed at their Bush lot Corentyne home on old years night.
