Security guard in custody after stabbing Labourer to death over a ‘Guinness’

Dead is Nickosie Vankenie, 23, a labourer of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice.

According to a police, their initial investigations revealed that at about 23:40h Friday(4th July 2020) the victim and suspect were under a shed next to a shop in Patrick Dam, New Amsterdam where they reportedly had an argument over a “Guinness” and the suspect allegedly stabbed Vankenie twice in the region of his neck and abdomen.

The young man was taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he received medical attention and admitted in the ICU, but succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, July 5th,2020.

After committing the act, the suspect fled the scene. He was apprehended Sunday afternoon by Police.

The police say their investigators are in possession of a statement from an eyewitness as the investigations continue into the murder.

The Ministry of Public Health confirms Guyana’s 15th COVID-19 related death.

Donna Greaves, a 25 year old female of Lethem passed this morning at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. She was admitted to the ICU on July 1.

Deepest condolences are extended to her family, relatives and friends.

Six new COVID cases recorded

The Ministry of Public Health has recorded six new cases of the novel coronavirus after forty-three tests were conducted within the last 24 hours.

The total number of confirmed cases now stands at 256, this is inclusive of 12 deaths and 117 recoveries

There are currently 125 active cases in isolation at various facilities across Guyana, 16 persons in institutional quarantine and one patient in the COVID-19 ICU.

To date, 2,711 tests have been conducted with 2,455 of those being negative.

Persons are again reminded to continue practising social distancing in the workplace, public spaces, and while using public transportation to reduce the spread of the coronavirus disease. They are also reminded to practise frequent hand washing/sanitising and always wear a face mask if they have to go out.

As of July 3, 2020, the WHO is reporting that globally the confirmed cases stand at 10,710,005 with 517,877 deaths. While in the Regions of the Americas, positive cases now stand at 5,445,710 with a total of 255,702 deaths.

Public Health Ministry confirms 14th COVID – 19 death

The Ministry of Public Health confirms Guyana’s 14th death from COVID-19 as was widely reported last evening. He is Mohammed Abdool Khan, 34 years old, of Bartica who passed yesterday at approximately 14:00hrs at the GPHC.

Mr. Khan was a patient of the ICU since June 23rd, having been transferred to the GPHC from the Bartica Regional Hospital on June 22nd.

The Ministry has extended its sincere condolences to you and  to his family, relatives and friends.

“Big Knee” wanted for murder

Aubrey ‘Big Knee’ Hyman, 27, is wanted by the police for questioning in relation to attempted murder committed on Osaffee Johnson and for a series of Armed Robberies, according to police.

The man’s last known address is Lot 71 Curtis Street, Albouystown and Warlock Squatting Area, Georgetown.

Anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of Aubrey Hyman is asked to contact the nearest police station.

The police in a media statement noted that all information will be treated with the strictest confidence.

Positive COVID cases move to 250

The number of persons testing positive for the novel coronavirus continues to climbs as two more cases are confirmed. This takes the total to 250.

Meanwhile, the Regional Health Officer for Region Seven has confirmed the first COVID-related death for the township of Bartica. The 34-year-old has become the 14th   person to succumb to the virus.

The Ministry of Public Health is also reporting another recovery taking that total to 117.

There are currently 120 active cases in isolation at various facilities across Guyana, 16 persons in institutional quarantine and two patients in the COVID-19 ICU.
