Guns, ammunition, bow and arrow found in Springlands house. Two in custody.

A hire car driver and his reputed wife are in police custody after the guns and ammunition were found in their home.
The police acting on information, on Tuesday, went to a house at
Springlands Village, Corentyne Berbice, which is owned by two pensioners and conducted a search for the illegal items. The pensioners occupy the lower flat, while the upper flat is occupied by a 27 year old male Hire Car Driver, his reputed wife, and their five year old daughter.
According to a police report, during the search in the presence of the occupants, the police found one black and brown Polymer 80.Inc .9mm pistol # PF9405C, one magazine containing four live rounds, one SA Sports Outdoor gear bow with arrow, one 12 gauge shotgun, wrapped in black plastic with scotch tape and one black Powerline Air Gun (9mm), with gas and pellets.
According to the police, a further search was conducted at a house owned by the 27-year-old taxi driver at #76 Village, Corentyne Berbice, where two holsters and a Pistol cleaning kit were also found.
All four adult occupants of the house were arrested and taken to Springlands Police Station. The two pensioners who are the grandparents of the woman were questioned and released on self bail, while the 5-year-old child was left in the care of an aunt.
The police investigations into the matter are ongoing.

CH&PA CEO fired, decision taken by cabinet

CEO of the Central Housing and Planning Authority now the Ministry of Housing and Water Lelon Saul was sent packing by the Ifraan Ali Government.

Saul, who headed the agency for the last three years was given his termination letter in which it was stated that his services were terminated effective immediately.
Reports are that the now former housing CEO was told by the Minister Collin Croal that the decision to terminate his contract was a cabinet decision.
Saul said he was not surprised that his contract was terminated by the administration. Prior to taking on the job as CEO of housing, Saul a retired Army Lt Colonel, worked with the United Nations.

Region 4 Returning Officer Clairmont Mingo arrested detained at CID headquarters

Clairmont Mingo who served as returning officer for region four was arrested by the Police at his Mahaicony lower East Coast Demerara home at approximately 3:30 this afternoon.

Mingo was immediately transferred to CID headquarters as the police probe an allegation a falsifying electoral documents.

Mingo was expected to appear in Court on Monday but was never served the private charges which were filed.

Mingo was taken to task by the People Progress Party following the March 2nd General and Regional Elections and was accused of Fraud by the Party.

Already the Chief Election Officer Keith Lowenfield was charged for misconduct in public office and was released on $450,000 bail. That matter is still before the court.

Guyana Tops the 1000 mark in COVID 19 cases

Guyana has recorded 74 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. Taking the country’s total confirmed COVID-19 cases to 1,029.

 

Deaths remain at 31, 13 persons are in the COVID-19 ICU, 66 persons are in institutional isolation while 409 persons are approved in home isolation. 

GDF medic delivers healthy baby boy at KaiKan

Guyana Defence Force Medic, Lance Corporal (LCPL) Thirston Tappin, rendered medical attention to Ms. Nairobi Marquez, 34, which resulted in the safe delivery of a baby boy, on August 19, 2020, at her home at Kaikan. LCPL Tappin is currently serving at the GDF Location at Kaikan on Guyana’s border with Venezuela.

LCPL Tappin had been attending to a Guyanese resident in the area when he was asked to provide assistance to Miss. Marquez. Upon receipt of the permission of his superior, Lieutenant Quason Mac Andrew, he proceeded to the woman’s abode and rendered the assistance needed. The mother and newborn were later transported to the Kaikan Health Center for further care and treatment.

Elated and Thankful, Ms. Marquez has since extended sincere appreciation to LCPL Tappin and the Guyana Defence Force. Miss Marquez a Venezuelan national, is residing with a Guyanese relative in Guyana.
