Sixteen persons have lost their lives to the Coronavirus in the first seven days of the May. Today, the Ministry of Health recorded the deaths of four women, among them is a twenty-nine year old from Region 7. The four according to the Ministry of Health died yesterday but their deaths were recorded in the COVID-19 death toll today. The other fatalities were that of a 69 year old from Region 3 and a 52 and 65 year old from Region 4. They all died in state care. The four deaths take the COVID-19 death toll to 314.
Meanwhile, Guyana’s COVID-19 death toll has surpassed 14, 000. Today, 116 new cases were recorded taking the country’s case count to 14,073. Fourteen persons are in the COVID-19 ICU.
74-year-old Israel Jacob of Wrong Turn, 111 Miles, Mahdia, Potaro, who was charged with the offence of Possession of Narcotics for the Purpose of Trafficking, appeared at the Mahdia Magistrates’ Court via Zoom before Magistrate Sunil Scarce on April 29th, where the charge was read to him and he was remanded to prison until May 24th.
