4 COVID-19 related deaths recorded today

Sixteen persons have lost their lives to the Coronavirus in the first seven days of the May. Today, the Ministry of Health recorded the deaths of four women, among them is a twenty-nine year old from Region 7. The four according to the Ministry of Health died yesterday but their deaths were recorded in the COVID-19 death toll today. The other fatalities were that of a 69 year old from Region 3 and a 52 and 65 year old from Region 4. They all died in state care. The four deaths take the COVID-19 death toll to 314.

Meanwhile, Guyana’s COVID-19 death toll has surpassed 14, 000. Today, 116 new cases were recorded taking the country’s case count to 14,073. Fourteen persons are in the COVID-19 ICU.

Nurse sentenced to eight years in prison for Child Luring

32-year-old Yohan London, a Registered Nurse (RN) of Section ‘C’ Christianburg, Wismar Linden was arrested for Child Luring and charged for  the said offence, Contrary to Section 15 (4) (a) of the Cybercrime Act No. 16 of 2018. Nurse appeared in the Linden Magistrates’ Court via Zoom this morning before Magistrate Wonda Fortune  where the charge was read to him.

He pled guilty and was sentenced to three years imprisonment.

Teenager sister of dead Linden woman remanded to juvenile holding centre

The fifteen year old sister of Shonette Dover was today remanded to the Juvenile Holding Centre after a charge of accessory to murder was read to her.

The child appeared before Magistrate Wanda Fortune in the Linden Magistrates’ Court. She will make her next court appearance on May 28th.

The Child reportedly led police to a site in the back yard of Shaquawn Alleyne’s house, where she said Shonette was buried. The police after digging some four feet came upon the remains.

The police in a release said the child in the presence of a child care and protection officer, related to them that Shaquawn Alleyne, Shonnette’s live in boyfriend shot her and together with his father buried her body in the backyard.

Shawn Alleyne, S Shaquawn’s father remains in custody as the police is still awaiting advice from the Director of Public Prosecution.

Yesterday, a post mortem examination of the remains, indicated that Shonette died as a result of a single gunshot injury to the head.

Sometime before Shonette’s remains were discovered, Shaquawn Alleyne fled. A wanted bulletin has since been issued for him.

Man remanded to prison on two counts of trafficking in person charges

Days after a wanted bulletin was issued for him in relation to Trafficking In Person, Tito Browne called  Tommy and Yankee was arraigned in the Linden Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Wonda Fortune to answer to the offence.

The 44 year old man was slapped with two counts of _trafficking in person, Contrary to Section 3 (1) (a) of the Combating of Trafficking in person Act Chapter 10:06_ and two counts of _Withholding identification to with Passports, Contrary to Section 4 of the said Act_, committed on Jamaican nationals Raymond Fowler and Chrisana Mayers respectively.

He pleaded not guilty to the offence and was remanded to prison until May 31st.

Shonette Dover died as a result of a single gunshot injury to the head

A post mortem examination conducted on the remains of Shonette Dover indicated that she died from a single gunshot injury to the head.  The post mortem was conducted on Monday, May 3, exactly one month to the date her relatives reported her missing. The police in a press statement said the body which was removed from the shallow grave last week was identified by her father.

Further, three ribs were removed from the body by government pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh and given to police to be analyzed for DNA identification.

Shonette Dover, a twenty year old bar tender from Linden was allegedly shot dead by her boyfriend Shaquawan Alleyne. Reports are that Dover’s 15 year old sister led the police to the site. The child reportedly told them that Alleyne had shot Dover and he together with his father buried her body in the backyard. Dover was reported missing on April 3 by relatives.

Alleyne during that period made public pleas for Shonette to return while joining her family members in appealing for her same return. Sometime before Dover’s remains were found, Alleyne disappeared. A wanted bulletin has since been issued for him.
