Region 4 Chairman files Police report after Microphone-pulling incident

Regional 4 Chairman Daniel Seeram on Thursday filed a report at the Beterverwagting Police Station alleging that he was assaulted by the Regional Executive Officer of Region 4, Donald Gajraj on Thursday. Seeram was at the time inviting Member of Parliament Cathy Hughes to make a presentation at the Region’s Republic day Flag Raising event when the incident occurred.

In a telephone interview with this newscast today, Seeram said this was not something he expected.

Seeram said without informing the council, the Regional Executive Officer changed the program and did not invite those who the council agreed should be at the event. He said too that the programme was male-dominated.

He said that after 53 years as a republic, what was witnessed live at an event to observe the milestone, speaks volumes.

The regional chairman also said he is concerned that the REO sent someone to his family’s home to question his security.
