Government to assist Kitty fire victims. Minister of State Joseph Harmon was on the scene of the fire and he assured residents that his Government would stand by them
Shortly after, Junior Natural Resources Minister Simona Broomes also arrived on the scene and she immediately began comforting the victims. The high point of her visit to the scene was when the Minister invited some of the victims to her home for breakfast, showers and whatever support she could give to them at this time.
Residents said the Guyana Fire Service was was prompt but ran out of water causing the fire to spread rapidly
There were 6 fire tenders on the scene but sourcing water from the nearby canal proved difficult because of the heavy silt in the canal. The firefighters used water from the canal closer to the GDF base and from a working Fire hydrant in Pike Street to put out the fire.
Several homeless after Kitty fire
A number of families are now pondering their next move after their Pike Street, Kitty homes were destroyed by fire early this morning. The fire according to reports started before 5:00 hrs.
